Frederick Law Olmsted designed Maplewood Park in the 1890s. It was part of his 1893 plan for Seneca Park, and was once called Seneca Park West. It runs about two miles along the Genesee River, bordered by Lake Avenue and Driving Park Avenue. A path follows the rim of the river gorge. The park holds a Rose Garden with more than 250 kinds of rose. They bloom from June into November. A national body has accredited the garden. The park also has a gazebo, the Dove Cote building, a fishing pond, and tennis and pickleball courts. Each year the garden hosts the Maplewood Rose Celebration. Guided walks in the gorge run at the same time.
