Anderson Park

What we know 0 of 3

Nobody has walked Anderson Park and written it up, and there is no list of what is there. What this page can tell you honestly is where it is and who looks after it. The rest is waiting on a visit.

Anderson Park sits where North Union Street, University Avenue, and Main Street meet. The Olmsted firm designed it in 1904 as a resting place for adults and a play space for children. It is named for Martin Brewer Anderson, the first president of the University of Rochester. In 1908, the German community placed a statue of the poet Friedrich Schiller in the park. The statue moved to Franklin Square, now Schiller Park, in 1964. Construction of the Inner Loop later cut the park’s size in half. After the Inner Loop’s 2016 rework, Anderson Park became the end point of an extended greenway.
